Week 3, January 15-21

Sunday, January 15th-
Watching movies after church
  • Grant and Cora had headaches during church. Cora's continued through the afternoon and evening. After dinner she was even a little bit pale.
  • Watch High School Musical and High School Musical 2 today. The kids love the songs!
  • Both my visiting teachers and our home teachers came today. Both visits were good. Frank has a new,\ companion, Steve Hopkinson, so it was nice to get to know him a little better.

Monday, January 16th-
  • Silas went to the temple with Josh Williams this morning.
  • Cora woke up with a croupy cough.
  • Woke up Grandma and left all the kids but Molly home. They fought most of the time and it was a stressful time.
  • Trying new chore wheel today and it wasn't too successful. Hoping tomorrow will be better.
  • Silas was super tired so he slept a lot of the day.
  • We watched High School Musical 3 this afternoon which was fun.
  • Grant, Ryan and I went to Lin's for a special ice cream run I celebrate the day off since we couldn't go anywhere with Cora not feeling well.
  • Sometimes days off are hard. But I did enjoy not having deadlines and places to go.
  • Silas needed to print something off at the church so we went over for a little while in the evening and played basketball. The boys are actually pretty good so we may just have to look into basketball next year.

Tuesday, January 17th-

  • Molly and Cora are both coughing now. Cora seemed to be acting better until evening when she was miserable. Poor girl.
  • Silas came home around noon for lunch and ended up staying home because of his neck/head pain. He's been having pains in his neck that cause headaches for about a week. It’s sad and a little frustrating.
  • We watched The Force Awakens and Pollyanna.
  • I had planned all day to go to the temple tonight with Cleod to do baptisms. At first he agreed to go,but finally expressed concern about going without Silas or another boy to be with him in the locker room. Luckily I didn't make a big deal about it because I know people who legitimately have temple anxiety and I don't want Cleod to have those feelings because of me. So I invited Megan to go with me and do initiatory instead. We had a great time, a great visit and some yummy frozen custard.

Wednesday, January 18th-

Sleeping in Mom's bed
Molly and Cora slept in our room again last night and Molly woke up after sleeping for a while and must have had an interesting dream. “I was making me a weapon. Sometimes girls need a weapon...because their daddies told them to have weapons.”

Cleod has a sore throat today so he stayed home. He was way bummed to,miss Mutual tonight.

Ryan and Grant had scouts though and it sounds like they had a good time.

I took advantage of early out day and kids being sick and I worked on family history for a lot of the day and evening.

Silas and I also went out for a lunch date since Cleod was home. We just went to Taco Bell but had a good talk.

Thursday, January 19th-

Cleod, Grant and Cora stayed home from school again today. Molly is sick too. Cleod and Grant read and watched a ton of movies. I am not feeling well today either so the girls and I literally laid around most of the day. We slept through most of the morning and then we had a small lunch. Then we slept for a couple more hours. I felt super lazy but realized that if I stayed in bed they most likely would too and they are definitely the sickest.

Sick girl
I made chicken noodle soup for dinner and took some to a lady in the ward who has been sick. Then Silas and Ryan went to Tamina’s 1st birthday party at the Warby’s. The other kids watched a movie and I did family history.
Cuddling with Dad at lunch time
Molly was funny again and said some crazy things today. She always seems to say strange things when she has fever. Today she was saying that she was Molly and that “God told her she was Molly.” She also got really emotional once and cried because she said something silly and I responded, “Molly, you're full of garbage,” which is something I say to the kids a lot, in a teasing way. She started crying and said, “I'm not garbage. God said I'm not garbage!” Those two mentions of what God told her were a few hours apart too. Haha. Within about 10 minutes of the garbage breakdown, Molly was laughing and calling herself garbage. Haha.

Friday, January 20th-

Ryan was the only one who went to school again today. Cleod and Grant probably could have but I wanted them to rest. I was able to have a nap in the morning while the kids did who knows what. When I woke up Molly was asleep on my bed though, so that was good.

Cleod working on homework
By evening most of us were feeling better so hopefully we are done. The girls are still coughing but that might last a while. Silas came home not feeling great though. He still made me dinner and hung out with the kids.

Silas making us dinner
Ryan and I went to the SUU gymnastics meet tonight. We were all going to go but Silas decided to stay home with the other kids and I have the other tickets to Amber. It was fun to hang out with Ryan. He really gets into the competition and we had some good conversation about being a good sport. The SUU girls won so that was even better. ;)

SUU Gymnastics
Brett and Deruchette brought Tamina over late tonight and she seems ok. She'll be with us until next Sunday, so hopefully she will put up with me for that long.

Saturday, January 21st-

Day 1
Tamina is doing great at our house. She didn't have her 2nd nap because Grant couldn't stand her crying and went into check on her before she fell asleep, but other than that she was totally fine.

I cut Ryan and Grant’s hair today and even made it to the gym. I ran for the first time in a while and my foot didn't hurt until after I finished. Even then it just had a weird feeling but not pain. Silas also went to racquetball today too.

Week 2, January 8-14

Sunday, January 8th-

Christmas exchange with Warbys
  • Ryan fasted for the first time. It seemed to be a good experience for him. Cleod was going to but woke up with a headache.
  • Molly is saying the ‘R' in Cora instead of saying it, “Cowa.” It's cute but makes me sad. It's another baby thing that she's growing out of.
  • Silas’s schedule on Sunday is nice. He goes on early (6am) every week (not a ton different because he was doing that a couple times a month) and then he stays for an hour after church setting people apart and doing interviews. Then he comes home for 2 hours to eat and rest and then back for a couple hours for interviews. It is nice to see him in the afternoon. He was still super tired tonight but it seemed better.
  • After dinner we went to the Warby’s for dessert and Christmas present exchange (finally!). We had such a great time….except Grant tripped and hit his head on the wall and was bleeding for a little bit. It looked worse than I think it is. It was a little scary for a few minutes though.

Monday, January 9th-
Making laundry soap
  • Grant stayed home so I could watch him. He seems fine after his head injury last night but I wanted to be safe.
  • Silas come home so I could still go to the gym. He's so nice to me.
  • I made lots of laundry soap, ironed 6 white shirts and did a couple loads of laundry before taking Cora to school. Grant and the girls colored and crafted while I worked.
  • We picked up burgers and went to the bank to eat with Silas for lunch.
  • Ryan had guitar lessons and is doing so well.
  • We watched the Championship game for college football tonight. Silas had an awful headache so he didn't get to watch most of it with us. We ended up staying up too late for a school night and I was grumpy...but it was a really good game! haha

Tuesday, January 10th-
  • Woke up Grandma
  • Went grocery shopping and picked up a few Valentine's decorations.
  • Cleod- piano lessons
Shopping fun

Wednesday, January 11th-
Results from a reading test Cleod took that shows
he is reading on an 11th grade reading level!

Today was the first time in a long time that we had a lazy afternoon on Wednesday! With paper route and Cleod's piano across town Wednesdays have been busy but now we don't have papers and today was the first day without piano on Wednesdays so it felt much calmer. Grant went to play at the Scherick's and Brady came over here to play with Ryan. The other kids enjoyed time out with neighbors and I caught up on the blog and on my budget.

This morning I got the van inspected so I could renew the registration. We had to buy a new windshield the other day which wasn't great but it didn't cost as much as I thought it would. The girls had fun playing "work" while we were at Big-O and they also took pictures with my phone.

Week 1, January 1-7

Sunday, January 1st-
Me and Molly before Primary started
Although we were tired this morning, it was so wonderful having church at 9am. Molly didn't love Sunbeams.

Once we got home and ate, Ryan and I started a puzzle. We normally do a puzzle on New Year's Eve but we didn't yesterday. When Silas got home from the church (before 2pm!) We had a nap with Molly and the kids occupied themselves well.

After a while they started watching Mr. Rogers, another New Year's thing. Dinner prep wasn't as stressful as normal on Sundays since we had time and Silas was already home.

The house is a total disaster but I don't care.

We finished the puzzle and even played a few games together. It was a lovely New Year's Day/Sabbath.

Monday, January 2nd-
Breakfast at IHOP

Last year we started the tradition of eating breakfast at IHOP on New Year's Day. Obviously we couldn't yesterday so we went out this morning. It was good but we decided that we are going to do something different next year. It was a lot of money for not the greatest food. We might do a smaller breakfast or lunch and then go to a movie. Either way it was good to be together as a family and it wasn't the worst eating-out-with-all-the-kids experience.

Silas and I went couch shopping and ended up buying a couch that is basically 2 oversized recliners stuck together. We also got a 6 foot bean bag...that's red. Haha. That was my impulse buy.

and FHE goals for 2017
We were going to just shop around but we really needed something. We thought we would be ok without a couch for a while, but it was really hard to have family movie time during the Holidays because Silas was always uncomfortable. Even though we don't watch TV or movies a ton, it made the times we wanted to watch something a negative experience because everyone wanted to pile on the recliner or pink chair.

Tuesday, January 3rd-
New couch!
Loving the new furniture!
Molly taking pictures during our movie time

  • Hurt my foot running this morning, not sure what went wrong.
  • Good morning with the kids (I thought it would be hard since we have gotten to bed so late during the break)
  • Silas met us so Wal-Mart again to help with grocery shopping

  • New couch and bean bag were delivered!!
  • Watched the new Pete’s Dragon with the kids and LOVE the new furniture!

Wednesday, January 4th-

  • Love that Cleod can sleep in on Wednesdays because of late start, especially after the break!
  • Cut Silas’s hair during his lunch break
  • Tried to rest foot. It's a little better.

Thursday, January 5th-
  • Cleod and Grant stayed home from school with sore throats
  • Had book club tonight at Ina’s house. We discussed Esperanza Rising, a great read!

Friday, January 6th-

Shopping with Silas (Yes, we bought the toque)
  • Got windshield replaced on the van because of some recent cracks that came out of nowhere
  • Cleod and Grant stayed home from school again.
  • Silas and I went to Ethan Aitken’s wedding reception tonight. He was one of our 11 year old scouts when we were in the Valley View ward.
  • After the reception we went to TJMaxx and bought Silas some comfy pants and a toque. Then we got some hot cocoa.

Saturday, January, 7th-

Today we went to two of Kianna’s basketball games and spent a few hours of the evening. We had Jambalaya together and played games. The kids were SUPER excited to finally spend time with each other.
